One Man Killed in Austin Crash

According to police reports, the man was killed on Saturday, but he was not identified to the public until Wednesday afternoon.

June 5, 2019 – 10:20 pm: Luis Fernando Martinez-Vertiz, 25, was killed in a crash involving a 2000 Nissan Xterra and a 2018 Ford F-450 in central Austin on Saturday night. Martinez-Vertiz was a passenger in the Nissan.

The crash took place near the intersection of North Lamar Boulevard and Morrow Street in central Austin. Police report that the driver of the Nissan failed to yield the right of way while making a left turn at a flashing yellow light.

The Ford hit the Nissan in the intersection, and Martinez-Vertiz was seriously injured in the accident. He was taken to a local hospital and was pronounced dead of his injuries shortly after his arrival.

No one else involved in the crash has been publicly identified at this time, and there are no reports that anyone else was injured in the accident. The Austin Police Department requests that anyone with any information about the accident contact the Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at (512) 974-6935.

Saturday night’s crash is still under investigation at the present time.
