According to news reports, the man was a recent graduate of the University of Nebraska.
November 29, 2018 – 8:00 pm: Matthew Lutomski, 24, of Lincoln, Nebraska, was killed in a single-car crash in north Austin on Thursday. According to news reports, he was pronounced dead at the scene after hitting a utility pole.
The accident took place on the service road of Research Boulevard, near the intersection with McCann Drive. Lutomski was headed south on Research Boulevard, driving a 2008 Subaru.
For unknown reasons, Lutomski lost control of the vehicle, swerving off of the road and colliding with a utility pole.
This accident was the 70th fatal crash in Austin during 2018, resulting in the 71st traffic death in the city so far this year. For comparison, at this time in 2017 there had been 64 fatal crashes, with a total of 69 traffic fatalities.
Matthew Lutomski was a recent graduate of the University of Nebraska. In a tweet from his university’s chapter of Delta Upsilon, it was announced that, “Today we lost a recently graduated brother. Matt Lutomski you will be missed, we are keeping your family in our thoughts.”
The cause of the accident is unknown at this time, and is currently under investigation.
