Three vehicles were involved in an accident when a tractor trailer jackknifed on Southwest Freeway, police reported.
July 27, 2018: This accident happened in the southbound lane of the Southwest Freeway. A truck driver reportedly lost control of the tractor trailer and began swerving uncontrollably on the highway. The driver of the truck was driving at a relatively high rate of speed. Police reported that the truck struck two vehicles and then jackknifed across the highway. Several oncoming vehicles crashed into the tractor trailer.
EMS arrived were at the scene of the crash within minutes to attend to the injured victims. It was reported that five people are in critical condition, including the trailer truck operator.
Three drivers and four passengers were identified to have sustained various injuries. All of the victims were transported to a nearby hospital by paramedics.
Traffic was at a standstill for over an hour as road crews cleared the scene of the disabled vehicles and debris.
The crash site is still being investigated.
