The Food and Drug Administration, however, found that the report did not show the results of some tests that indicated an increase in cardiac ischemia among patients receiving rosiglitazone. This means that the coronary artery is suddenly blocked so that the muscle of the heart cannot pump efficiently, which may bring about a heart attack.
A report published by the Senate Finance Committee indicated that Glaxo knew about the risks of this drug long before they were made publicly available. The report was named, “The Intimidation of Dr. John Buse and the Diabetes Drug Avandia.” This name refers to efforts made by Glaxo to stop a scientist who was researching the risks of this drug.
