Talk to our Attorneys about a Hyland Teething Tablets Lawsuit
the accident and injury law office of Terry Bryant is meeting with parents who have concerns about the link between Hyland’s teething tablets and adverse health effects. We fight for our clients to make sure they get the compensation they deserve.
WHY PARENTS TURNED TO HYLAND’S TEETHING TABLETS
Teething is something that everyone experiences, a process that starts at around five months and lasts until a child is around 2 years old. Parents often notice that their child seems to be experiencing a great deal of pain during teething, and they want to help their children cope with the process. Some choose teething rings, while others look to pain relief medications. Parents might be tempted to try products that carry labels like “all-natural” or “homeopathic,” even though these labels can be misleading.
Touted as a completely natural, homeopathic remedy for pain during the teething process, Hyland’s Teething Tablets and Teething Gel were sold in stores to unsuspecting parents. Because the labels failed to notify parents of risks and specifics about certain ingredients used in these tablets, consumers assumed they were effective alternatives to more conventional pain relief medication. Relatedly, what consumer wouldn’t feel some sense of trust or confidence when seeing “Since 1903”, “Made in USA”, “Homeopathic”, “Natural Relief”, and other effective marketing messages when scrutizing the product in store before purchasing? Parents believed these medications to be safe, though for some parents, it became clear that they were anything but that.
COMPLICATIONS FROM HYLAND’S TEETHING TABLETS
Parents have complained of several adverse health events that their children experienced after using these tablets. The Food and Drug Administration received reports of 10 deaths, along with other complaints, including vomiting and seizures. This prompted a call from the FDA in January 2017 for parents not to use these tablets, primarily because they contained a toxic substance called Atropa belladonna, also referred to as simply “belladonna,” or “deadly nightshade.” If you or a loved one has been affected, it’s essential to consult with a drug injury lawyer immediately.”
It wasn’t the first time that the tablets were considered a risk to consumers. Hyland’s Teething Tablets were also subject to a recall in 2010 partly because of concerns related to the manufacturing process. This recall also followed complaints filed to the FDA, though the Administration made no confirmation on the links between complaints and the product at the time.
The company that manufactures Hyland’s Teething Tablets, Standard Homeopathic Company, has resisted claims that belladonna was responsible for adverse health effects of the tablets. However, their own recall of the products and the several complaints received by the FDA say otherwise.
The FDA found that Hyland’s Teething Tablets and Teething Gels were mislabeled, failing to alert consumers about the amount of belladonna alkaloids they contained. This misinformation, coupled with the hazardous nature of these products, has caused a great deal of suffering to both children and parents. This negligence on behalf of Standard Homeopathic Company has prompted some concerned parents to consider legal action.
HAS YOUR CHILD BEEN HARMED BY HYLAND’S TEETHING TABLETS?
Well-intentioned parents turned to these products to ease the pain of their children. In some cases, they were encouraged by pediatricians and glowing online reviews. In others, they responded to what they saw at the point-of-sale. For too many parents, unfortunately, turning to Hyland’s Teething Tablets and gel was an experiment that had disastrous results.
If you used Hyland’s Teething Tablets or Teething Gel to help your child and believe that your child has been harmed by the product, you have the right to take legal action.
