Woman in Southeast Houston Dies in Christmas House Fire

December 25, 2018

The Houston Fire Department reports that the woman was found at the bottom of a stairwell and later pronounced dead at the hospital.

December 25, 2018 – 7:00 am: Patricia Arp, 83, was killed in a house fire that took place on Tuesday morning in southeast Houston. Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control, but not until the fire claimed Ms. Arp’s life.

The fire broke out in the Sage Meadow subdivision, where Arp’s home was located on the 103000 block of Sagerock.

Arp’s neighbor, Israel Munoz, reports that, “I woke up at seven, the house was already in flames.”

Art De La Garza, an off-duty Fire Department Captain, was the first person to respond to the fire, and he was the one who found her at the bottom of the stairwell. However, it was too late to rescue Arp, and she was pronounced dead shortly after being taken to the hospital.

According to Sherry Abbot, Arp’s niece, Arp was probably in the kitchen preparing a Christmas meal for her grandchildren, who were set to arrive later in the day.

The house appears to be a total loss, and the fire is still being investigated.
