Woman Killed on State Highway 249 After Being Struck by Three Vehicles

Two of the vehicles involved did not remain at the scene to speak to the authorities.

A woman walking along State Highway 249 was killed after being struck by three vehicles just after 9 p.m. on Sunday, August 26.

Alyson Marks was walking in the northbound traffic lanes of Tomball Parkway, near Seton Lake Drive, when she was hit by a vehicle. After being struck, Marks landed in the left lane, where she was struck by two more vehicles.

Only one of the three vehicles involved remained at the scene.

In 2017, there were 617 pedestrian fatalities in Texas. There were 5,767 total crashes involving pedestrians in Texas that same year. Research indicates that Houston is one of the most dangerous cities in the country for pedestrians.

The Texas Department of Transportation said that most pedestrian deaths occur when someone is walking in the roadway.

AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety said earlier this year that Texas experienced a 60% increase in hit-and-run fatalities involving pedestrians and bicyclists since 2009. In 2016, more than 2,000 people died on our roads in hit-and-run crashes.

According to AAA, Texas ranks 8th in the country for hit-and-run fatalities.
