January 2, 2019 – 5:52 pm: An unidentified 82-year-old woman was killed in a crash that took place in northwest Houston on Wednesday evening.

The crash took place at the 1800 block of Wirt, where the woman was crossing the street on a mobility scooter.

According to the Houston Police Department, the woman was not crossing the street at a crosswalk. The woman’s son reports that she had just left her home and was headed to her doctor’s office at the time of the crash.

The driver who hit her remained at the scene of the accident and cooperated fully with the police after they arrived. Houston Police also specify that the driver did not show any signs of intoxication after the accident.

Neither the woman on the mobility scooter nor the driver of the vehicle that hit her has been publicly identified at this time.

The roads were wet and slick as a result of rain, but that does not appear to have been a factor in the crash. The driver reports that he did not see the woman until after he had hit her.
