Woman Dead, Man Injured in One-Vehicle Accident

Investigators report that alcohol is not currently thought to be a factor in the crash, which took place on Wednesday morning.

September 19, 2018 – 12:45 am: A 21-year-old woman died early Wednesday morning when the driver of the vehicle she was riding in ran a red light and crashed into a metal pole.

The accident took place on the Katy Freeway feeder road near Gessner. The driver of a blue Nissan Altima was driving westbound in the left turn only lane when he continued straight, ran a red light, and crashed into a metal light pole.

Soon after, Houston Police Department officers and first responders arrived on the scene.

The woman, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was taken to the hospital and later died. The driver, a 26-year-old male, was injured and taken to the hospital in stable condition.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, which is still currently under investigation. Alcohol is not believed to have been a contributing cause in the accident, and no charges have been filed at this time. Until the investigation is complete, there will be no final word regarding whether or not charges will be filed.
