October 15, 2018 – 3:00 pm: One man is dead after a two-vehicle crash that took place in Upshur County on Monday afternoon.

The accident took place at the intersection of FM 726 and SH 300 in Upshur County, where Ricardo Refugio Quezada, a 25-year-old man from Gilmer, was heading eastbound on FM 726.

Quezada reached the intersection and reportedly failed to yield the right of way to an oncoming vehicle traveling along SH 300. The driver of the second vehicle was 50-year-old Karen Yvette Wallace, also from Gilmer.

The two vehicles crashed at the intersection, and both drivers were injured in the accident. Officers from the Texas Department of Public Safety were called and arrived at the scene soon afterward.

Both Wallace and Quezada were taken to Good Shepherd Hospital-Longview. Quezada was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival at the hospital. Wallace was treated for her injuries and has since been released.

At this time, the accident remains under investigation. For now, however, it appears as though Quezada’s failure to yield the right of way was the cause of the accident.
