January 4, 2019 – 3:30 am: Two drivers were killed in a wrong-way crash that took place after police tried to stop one of the drivers early Friday morning.
The accident took place on Interstate 30 in Fort Worth, near West Loop 820.
Police had received reports of a vehicle headed westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-30, but were unable to stop her before she hit an oncoming vehicle head-on. Both she and the driver of the other vehicle were killed in the crash.
Police have not yet released the names of either of the drivers killed in the crash. The interstate was closed for a few hours while police investigated.
According to Officer Buddy Calzada of the Fort Worth Police Department, “We don’t know if there were any signs of intoxication. All we were trying to do was to get that vehicle stopped so that we could make it safe for everybody. And, you know, it’s very tragic.”
I-30 has since been reopened, but the accident is still under investigation at this time.
