Two Killed in Three-Vehicle Accident

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the victims were an elderly couple from Victoria, Texas.

May 14, 2019 – 12:35 pm: Franklin Stoeltje, 85, and Annie Stoeltje, 84, were killed in a crash that took place near Swiss Alp, Texas on Tuesday afternoon. The accident involved the Stoeltjes’ 2010 Toyota SUV, a teal 1994 Ford van, and an 18-wheeler.

The crash took place on US Highway 77, a short distance north of the intersection with FM 956. The Stoeltjes were headed northbound in their Toyota, just behind the Ford van driven by Jorge Tobon, 57.

An 18-wheeler hit the Toyota head-on, also striking the Ford in the process. Both Franklin and Annie Stoeltje were killed in the accident.

Information concerning the condition of Tobon and the driver of the 18-wheeler is not available at this time. The driver of the 18-wheeler has not been identified at this time.

The cause of the accident is unclear at this time. It is unknown why the driver of the 18-wheeler lost control of the vehicle, leading up to the accident.

Traffic was cut off at the site of the crash for some time after the accident, which is still currently under investigation.
