August 21, 2018: Three separate crashes involving 18-wheelers took place in Jefferson County on Tuesday. The first accident killed one man, the second caused one injury, and the third only caused property damage.
The first accident took place around 11:00 A.M. The 20-year-old Tyler Hryhorchuk rear-ended a 2011 Freightliner. Hryhorchuk was ejected from his 2016 Toyota Tacoma and was pronounced dead on the scene once the authorities arrived.
The second accident happened at about noon. Chelsey Richardson, driving a 2009 Suzuki on the eastbound lane of I-10, rear-ended another 18-wheeler. Richardson’s Suzuki burst into flames, and she was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The third accident happened Tuesday afternoon, near mile marker 842 on I-10. An 18-wheeled tanker truck overturned after attempting an emergency crossover. Fortunately, there were no injuries in this accident, although the Interstate was closed for several hours after the incident.
All three incidents caused road closures for a time, but the interstate was open and running at full capacity by the end of the day on Tuesday.
