According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident appears to have been caused by speeding.

May 6, 2019 – 7:03 pm: Bagley Mahdessian, 15, was killed in a single-vehicle crash that took place on Monday evening in Rusk County. The driver of the vehicle, 18-year-old Demarcus Keshaun Holsome, was hospitalized after the crash, and is currently in stable condition.

The accident took place on County Road 165, about three miles south of Kilgore, Texas.

Holsome was headed southbound in a 2000 Lincoln when he came to a left curve at excessive speed. The vehicle drifted off the road and Holsome overcorrected, forcing the vehicle into a skid. The Lincoln went into a ditch, where it rolled over onto its roof.

Holsome was taken to UT Health, while Mahdessian was taken to Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center-Longview, where she was later pronounced dead.
