Pedestrian Run Over by Man who Stole EMS Truck

According to news reports, the San Antonio man has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, theft of property between $30,000 and $150,000, and evading arrest.

October 11, 2018 – 8:00 am: A pedestrian on a scooter was injured when a man stole a San Antonio EMS truck while evading arrest. Several vehicles were hit while the driver, 26-year-old Ruben Cuellar, fled police in the stolen truck.

Paramedics were responding to a call at a Starbucks at the corner of St. Mary’s and Houston streets. They left their Ford F-150 running while they went inside to help the victim.

Cuellar jumped into the modified Ford F-150, circled the block, and fled through the southern part of downtown San Antonio.

Cuellar hit several vehicles and injured the 26-year-old Nathan Cortez in the process of fleeing. Cortez was not seriously injured in the accident.

Cuellar drove onto I-35 northbound, being chased by the police all the while. Cuellar crashed at Loop 1604 North, at which time police eventually managed to detain him.

Cuellar faces multiple felony charges and is being held in Bexar County Jail on a $160,000 bond. The man he hit is expected to recover. It is unclear how much total property damage occurred as a result of the police chase.
