Road Rage May be Responsible for Liberty County Teen’s Death

August 22, 2018

Investigators report that the victim was killed and another teen was injured in the wreck, which may have been caused by road rage.

August 22, 2018 – 9:00 pm: The 17-year-old Johnathan Michael Perez of Cleveland, Texas, was killed Wednesday night in a crash that seems to have been caused by road rage.

The accident happened on CR 3478B in the Plum Grove area of north Liberty County. Perez was driving when his vehicle was hit from behind, causing the car to roll over several times. The accident killed Perez and left his one passenger injured.

The passenger was treated for minor injuries and released soon after.

Investigators suspect that the two teens were involved in some incident before the crash, which led to it becoming deadly. No more details have been released at this time, but investigators are studying the events that led up to the crash.

Rollover crashes are some of the most serious accidents that can happen to a driver. Even though they only make up about 3% of serious crashes, they are responsible for roughly 30% of deaths in passenger vehicles.

An autopsy has been ordered on Perez, and investigation into the accident is still ongoing.
