August 28, 2018 – 9:40 pm: An unidentified man was struck and killed by a car in Laredo on Tuesday night. Police have not released the identity of the man killed in the accident.

News reports indicate that the man was crossing the street at the corner of Mines Road and Bristol Road when the accident occurred. The location was near a Valero gas station and Popeye’s restaurant.

Traffic was blocked off while the accident was under investigation, holding up traffic for several hours. Local police even went so far as to advise the public to avoid the area where the accident took place, on account of potential delays.

Pedestrian accidents have a high potential for lethality because pedestrians are almost entirely unprotected from the force of the crash. Out of a total of 5,767 crashes involving pedestrians that took place in Texas in 2017, there were 614 fatalities.

Police have not yet released any information regarding the cause of the accident, which is still under investigation at this time.
