Pedestrian Killed in Hit and Run Crash

According to Austin Police, the man was hit by a small, dark pickup truck on Thursday morning.

May 2, 2019 – 6:00 am: A man was killed on Thursday morning in a hit and run accident that took place in north Austin. Austin police are currently searching for the driver responsible for the crash.

The accident took place on the 8700 block of North Lamar Boulevard in north Austin.

The victim of the crash was reportedly a Hispanic man in his 40s. The driver of the pickup truck was headed northbound on North Lamar Boulevard when the vehicle struck the man, who was trying to cross the road at the time.

Joaquin Damas, who was a witness, commented that, “When I heard the noise real loud, I went outside and saw the body of the man on the floor. I couldn’t do anything about it.”

The driver of the pickup drove away from the scene and will likely face charges of failure to stop and render aid when found. Police believe the pickup truck has serious damage to the passenger’s side.
