Lone Star Explosion Kills One, Injures Four

August 31, 2018

News reports say that state authorities are investigating the cause of an explosion at a plant in East Texas on Friday afternoon.

August 31, 2018 – 4:00 pm: 44-year-old William Rudd of Oklahoma was killed in an explosion at Lone Star Specialties on Highway 259 in Lone Star on Friday afternoon.

Four others were injured in the blast, which locals report could be heard for miles around.

Donald Thompson worked about half a mile away from the explosion. He said, “I didn’t know what happened, I walked outside, I thought an 18-wheeler from next door might have hit the building.” He told reporters that the explosion rattled the building he was working in, and for a moment he thought he was going to get blown up.

Local police and firefighters arrived on the scene and found that a tank had blown up in the plant. They found its remains in a twisted hunk of metal. A drone was later brought onto the scene so that investigators could get a view from above the site of the explosion.

Many organizations contributed to handling the accident. Texas Rangers, Champion EMS, Lone Star fire department, and Morris County sheriff’s deputies were involved on the scene.

The Texas Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating what caused the explosion.
