One Killed in I-35 Crash

According to Police, they were already on the track of a wrong-way driver when the accident took place on Sunday morning.

May 12, 2019 – 4:00 am: Christian Barrios, 21, was killed in a crash that took place in Austin, Texas on Sunday morning. Police had received multiple calls about a vehicle headed the wrong way, but were unable to intercept the vehicle in time to prevent a crash.

The accident took place on Interstate 35, near Braker Lane in Austin.

Police received reports of a 2008 Hyundai Elantra headed southbound on the northbound lanes of I-35. Before officers could arrive on the scene, the Elantra hit a Yukon head-on.

Barrios, driving the Elantra, was pronounced dead on the scene of the accident. The driver and one passenger on the Yukon were taken to the hospital after the accident with non-life-threatening injuries. Police report that they were both wearing seatbelts.

At this time, it is unclear why Barrios was headed the wrong way down Interstate 35. The driver and the passenger on the Yukon have not been publicly identified at this time.

Investigation into the accident is still ongoing at this time, and more information will be made available as it comes to light.
