Speeding Motorcyclist Dies after Wreck in Fort Worth

Police say that the motorcyclist was going over 100 mph at the time of the collision.

August 16, 2018 – 3:15 pm: A motorcyclist is dead after a crash that took place at Jacksboro Highway and Skyline Drive on Thursday afternoon. One other person was hospitalized as a result of this speeding-related accident.

According to the police who arrived on the scene, the motorcycle was speeding at more than 100 miles per hour when it crashed into a black Lincoln that was in the middle of a turn. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead on the scene, while the occupant of the Lincoln was picked up by an ambulance and taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital.

Speeding is a contributing factor in more than one in four fatal accidents nationwide, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Between 2007 and 2016, the percentage of speeding-related fatalities dropped from 32% to 27%.

Texas ranks as the 19th least safe state when it comes to speeding-related accidents, with a total of 1,069 speeding-related fatalities in 2016 and 3.84 speeding-related fatalities per 100,000 people. Across the United States, speeding is a factor in more than 10,000 road deaths every year.
