Texas Sheriff’s Deputy Injured in Crash with Train

According to Midland County Sheriff Gary Painter, the deputy was “banged up” but still “walking and talking.”

May 21, 2019 – 9:00 am: A deputy with the Midland County Sheriff’s Office was injured in an accident involving a train while responding to an emergency on Tuesday morning. His vehicle was reportedly thrown several hundred feet, but the deputy survived the accident with only minor injuries.

The event took place at a marked railroad crossing in Midland County. The deputy was responding to a distress call where a child was having trouble breathing. At the railroad crossing, he crossing arms were down, but the deputy did not see the train coming.

The deputy’s SUV was thrown several hundred feet by the force of the impact, ending up on its side. The deputy was lucky to be alive after such an incident, and according to Midland County Sheriff Gary Painter, the deputy was banged up but walking and talking normally.

The officer has not been publicly identified at this time, and there is no word on the condition of anyone on board the train at the time of the accident. This crash is still under investigation.
