Austin Pedestrian Killed by Capital Metro Bus

According to news reports, the crash took place last week, but police only released the man’s identity this Thursday.

September 20, 2018 – 11:30 pm: 29-year-old Andrew Sanchez of Austin was killed when he was run over by a Capital Metro bus late last Thursday night.

The accident happened on the 1000 block of St. Johns Boulevard.

For unknown reasons, Sanchez was laying down on the westbound lanes of St. Johns Boulevard when the bus struck him. The driver of the Capital Metro bus was unable to see the man until the vehicle had already struck him.

Sanchez was pronounced dead at the scene when police arrived. The bus driver remained at the scene and fully cooperated with their investigation.

The area around the accident was closed to traffic for several hours while police investigated the accident.

This crash was the 53rd fatal accident of 2018 in Austin, resulting in the 54th traffic death of the year in the city.

Police from the Austin Police Department are asking anyone with knowledge of the accident to call their detectives at (512) 974-5594. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and officers are seeking more information regarding the causes of the event.
