Man and Passenger Seriously Injured in Crash with 18-Wheeler

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, only two vehicles were involved in Monday afternoon’s wreck.

May 13, 2019 – 2:30 pm: Steven West, 67, was seriously injured in a crash with an 18-wheeler that took place on Monday afternoon just south of Livingston. He was airlifted to a hospital in Houston, while his passenger has been taken to CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial in Livingston.

The accident took place on US Highway 59, just south of Livingston.

Tom Moravee, 49, was driving a 2016 Freightliner 18-wheeler northbound on US 59, while Steven West was headed northbound in a 2019 Volkswagen. The Freightliner’s left front tire blew out, causing the vehicle to strike West’s Volkswagen.

Moravee was not injured in the accident. West was injured seriously enough to be airlifted to Houston, although there is no other information available about the extent of his injuries. West’s passenger was also injured and has since been hospitalized. The passenger has not been publicly identified at this time.

Traffic was blocked off for a few hours near the scene of the accident after the wreck. The accident is still under investigation at this time.
