According to El Paso Police, the man lost control of his vehicle because of a medical emergency while driving.
May 1, 2019 – 4:00 pm: Charles Hurst, a 73-year-old man from El Paso, was killed in a crash that took place on Wednesday afternoon. Police believe he lost control of his vehicle after suffering from a medical emergency, and that this emergency is what killed him.
The accident took place on I-10, near Lee Trevino in El Paso, Texas.
Hurst was headed eastbound on I-10. He lost control of his vehicle and drove into the center median. According to the El Paso Police Department, he did not suffer serious injuries in the accident. He was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead of natural causes.
There were no other vehicles involved in the crash, according to El Paso Police. After the accident took place, I-10 East was closed for some time starting at McRae. Police were on the scene for investigation and cleanup for several hours, but the interstate has since been reopened.
