Motorcyclist Critically Injured in Lufkin Crash

News reports state that the victim was life-flighted to Houston after a car backed into his path, leading to the crash.

August 14, 2018 – 5:55 pm: A man in Lufkin was seriously injured when a Dodge Challenger backed into his path on Tuesday evening.

The accident took place at the 2200 block of Atkinson Drive in Lufkin. According to the Lufkin Police Department, 31-year-old Crystal Tovar was backing out of her driveway when she pulled out directly into the motorcyclist’s path. Tovar was given a citation for her failure to yield the right of way from a private drive, and for driving without insurance. She was not injured in the crash.

The motorcyclist was taken to CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial Hospital at first, but he was later airlifted to Houston’s Memorial Hermann Hospital. Jessica Pebsworth of the Lufkin Police Department stated that “as of 8:45 a.m., he remained there in critical condition. We will continue to check in with hospital staff throughout the day for updates on his status.”

The Lufkin Police Department has not released the name of the motorcyclist at this time. They further report that the crash currently remains under investigation.
