Good Samaritan Helping with Disabled Vehicle Killed on North Freeway

News reports state that Juan Manuel Flores III was trying to help the driver of a broken-down Dodge Charger at the time of the accident.

August 12, 2018 – 3:30 am: A 24-year-old man was killed while attempting to help a stranded motorist on the outbound North Freeway at the North Loop on Sunday morning.

Four vehicles were involved in the accident. It began when Flores pulled over to the side of the road in his black truck to help the driver of the Charger stranded by the side of the road. The third vehicle was a white truck that hit the Charger, causing the driver of the fourth vehicle to swerve to avoid it.

The fourth vehicle struck and killed Flores. The driver stayed at the scene and waited for the police.

Flores was a husband and father of three, working as an EMT and ER Tech. His family reports that he was hoping to become a firefighter.

Ashley Flores, Juan Flores’ wife, told reporters, “I know in my heart that when he pulled over, he felt clarity in his heart that I’m going to pull over and help this man.”

The Flores family has set up a GoFundMe account to go toward funeral expenses.
