News reports indicate that one of the thieves may have also been injured in the accident.
August 17, 2018: Early on Friday morning, a pair of thieves stole Samantha Maret’s Jeep Grand Cherokee. The driver in the SUV they hit was injured in the accident, but not seriously.
Maret called 911, then notified her insurance company about the theft. After that, she got a call from the Houston Police Department. “They told me my truck had been found because it was involved in a hit and run crash,” she said.
Police report that the thieves crashed the Grand Cherokee into another SUV. They then ran away from the scene of the accident, leaving the vehicle behind. Police still have not found the two suspects, both of whom are young men.
Police report that code grabbers are becoming more common, allowing thieves to steal cars without setting off their alarms. This may be a serious problem with the key fob system.
