Fatal Crash on FM 1960 near I-45 North

August 13, 2018

A fatal crash on FM 1960 involving at least two or three vehicles left one man dead last Friday, August 10th, 2018, just after 6:30 a.m.

The incident occurred at FM 1960 and I-45 and resulted in a closure and major delays on westbound 1960. The crash forced drivers to use the I-45 frontage road as an alternate route.

FM 1960 has undergone much construction over the past several years and is slated to be expanded again to improve its safety.

In April 2017, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) held a public hearing to gather input on a proposed reconstruction and widening of 6.4 miles of Farm to Market 1960 from Business Farm to Market Road 1960-A to Atascocita Shores Drive in Harris County.

Earlier this year, TxDOT announced a $100 million project that would widen FM 1960 between Humble and Atascocita, making the road a six-lane divided highway. The project, which will begin in late 2019 or early 2020, also includes the construction of raised medians and multiple overpasses.

In 2017, there were 45 fatal crashes on farm to market roads in Harris County, according to data from TxDOT.
