August 25, 2018 – 12:00 pm: Two are dead and 11 are injured after a train operated by Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) collided with a dump truck in Fort Worth, Texas on Saturday. The accident took place in the Far East Fort Worth neighborhood.

According to witnesses, the dump truck drove onto the tracks in an attempt to beat the commuter train. Unfortunately, it was too slow, leading to the catastrophic wreck. The truck exploded as a result of the impact, which took place even though the track’s crossing barrier was already down.

The two deaths in the accident were the occupants of the dump truck: the 49-year-old Arnell Tolliver and the 50-year-old Charlene Alexander. Both Tolliver and Alexander were pronounced dead at the scene.

11 of the train’s occupants, including the conductor, were injured seriously enough to be hospitalized. Two of the injured individuals were listed as being in critical condition at the time of the accident.

Investigators have no word on why the truck’s driver attempted to cross despite the crossing bar being lowered.
