One Killed in Accident on Winkler

According to news reports, the accident happened last Sunday, but charges were filed against the driver responsible for the crash Monday morning.

October 14, 2018 – 1:00 am: 33-year-old Ricardo Lozoya recently died of injuries sustained early last Sunday morningin a crash with a drunk driver. Victor Godoy, Jr., 36, has been charged with driving while intoxicated (2nd offense) as a result of this crash.

The accident took place at 8800 Winkler, early on the morning of October 14.

Lozoya was driving south on the 6700 block of Easthaven in a black Suzuki GSX-R1000 at the time of the crash. When he came to the intersection with Winkler, he was hit by Godoy, who was driving a white Chevrolet Cruze eastbound on Winkler.

Lozoya was taken to Clear Lake Regional Hospital, where he died Sunday, October 21.

Officers of the Houston Police Department field tested Godoy and determined that he was impaired. Charges against him were filed Monday.

Drunk driving is a contributing factor in more than one in four traffic deaths that take place in Texas. In 2017, drunk driving crashes led to 1,024 deaths—28% of traffic deaths in Texas last year.

This accident is still under investigation.
