Driver charged with intoxication manslaughter after allegedly causing fatal accident on East Freeway.

August 11, 2018 – 3:05 am: The driver of a white GMC Arcadia was thrown from the vehicle and killed early Saturday morning on the 12950 block of East Freeway, near Greens Bayou.

The Arcadia driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Caleb A. Torres, the driver of the black Cadillac CTS who was reported to have caused the accident, was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter. He allegedly admitted that he’d used alcohol and narcotics before the crash.

Witnesses report that the black Cadillac that Torres was driving was weaving in and out of traffic at high speeds immediately before the accident. It then hit an inside concrete barrier and ran into the Arcadia, which went airborne and flew into the nearby service road.

Torres was detained at the scene and has been charged.

The victim of the crash was a 25-year-old male whose identity is pending verification from the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Alcohol-related accidents kill an average of more than 3,000 people every year in Texas. Intoxication manslaughter is a second degree felony, punishable by a minimum of two years in prison. Torres faces a maximum of 20 years in prison if he is found guilty of intoxication manslaughter.
