HCSO reported that a Nissan Altima was struck by a Toyota SUV on Sheldon Road, resulting in injuries.
July 30, 2018 – 6:43 am: A major auto accident happened after a Toyota 4Runner spun out of control while traveling at a high rate of speed. The incident report says a 35-year-old man was driving the SUV at the time of the crash. According to HCSO, a contributing factor in this crash was how fast the driver was traveling. Initial estimates were that he was traveling over 80 miles per hour when he lost control of his SUV.
The 4Runner reportedly veered out of its lane and forcefully struck a 2012 Nissan 4-door sedan from the rear. It was reported that the Nissan, which was being driven by a 59-year-old man, swerved off the road uncontrollably and hit a guardrail. It took over 30 minutes to remove the driver from his vehicle following this accident. The SUV also struck the guardrail and forcefully came to a standstill.
This accident happened just north of US 90 on Sheldon Road in front of the Denny’s and Shell gas station. Law enforcement had 3 lanes of traffic closed while the accident scene was being worked and cleared.
Authorities say the two drivers involved in this accident have been transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Fortunately, there were no passengers in either of the two vehicles. Charges are pending against the driver of the Toyota 4Runner.
