News reports say that one of the men killed in Wednesday’s crash was a Jordanian fighter pilot.
August 21, 2018: Two men were killed on Tuesday afternoon when a helicopter struck an electrical line and crashed into a field near Georgetown, about 30 miles from Austin.
The Jordanian Armed Forces announced on Wednesday that one of the men killed in the helicopter was 1st Lt. Ahmed Ali Mohammed Khalif al-Khawaledeh, a 27-year-old fighter pilot in the Jordanian military. Al-Khawaldeh was in Texas to receive training from the United States military.
The other man killed in the crash was 58-year-old Michael Hawley of Dothan, Alabama.
Both men died on the scene of the crash. They were found dead on arrival when the Texas Department of Public Safety and Williamson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash.
The event is still under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board. The causes of the crash are still being looked into, and the events leading up to the incident are not yet clearly understood.
There are several U.S. military bases throughout Texas that have been providing training to officers from Jordan and other countries allied with the United States.
