One Dead, One Injured in Multi-Car 18-Wheeler Crash

August 24, 2018

News reports say that the accident took place on State Highway 7 in Houston County.

August 24, 2018 – 12:20 pm: Lee Reed, a 43-year-old man from Crockett, was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident that took place just after noon on Friday.

Several vehicles were involved in the accident, including a 2008 Pontiac, an 18-wheeler, a 2014 Kia, and a 2015 Chevy Tahoe. Reed was driving the Pontiac in the westbound lane when he veered into the 18-wheeler (which was headed east) just before being hit by the Kia. After that, the Pontiac was hit once again, this time by the Chevy Tahoe, which was also in the eastbound lane.

A Houston County Justice of the Peace pronounced Reed dead at the scene of the accident. The Kia’s driver, the 35-year-old Ashley Schevers, was taken to a hospital in Lufkin with some injuries.

Everett Obriant, the 74-year-old driving the semi-truck, was not injured. Neither was the Tahoe’s driver, Katherine Gomez (51).

The accident remains under investigation at this time. The Department of Public Safety still does not clearly understand what caused Reed to veer into the 18-wheeler when this chain of events began.
