News reports state that traffic was diverted from U.S. 290 for three or four hours after the accident occurred.
September 12, 2018 – 3:40 pm: One person was killed in a three-car collision on U.S. Highway 290 in Bastrop County on Wednesday afternoon.
The name of the individual killed in the accident has not yet been released. Three cars were involved in the accident, and no information has yet been released concerning any injuries that may have occurred in the crash.
According to the Texas Department of Transportation, the crash took place east of Elgin. Traffic was shut down on U.S. 290 at FM 696.
The Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office had to divert traffic as a result of the crash. Westbound traffic was diverted onto State Highway 95, while eastbound traffic was diverted onto Old McDade Road. Semi trucks were being blocked from going onto Old McDade, and the police were diverting them onto SH 95 South.
No information is available regarding the make of the vehicles involved in the crash, nor the identities of those in the accident. The accident is still under investigation, and there is no word on the cause of the crash at this time.
