According to police reports, the accident was originally being investigated as a murder, but it is now clear that there was no foul play involved.
October 21, 2018 – 4:47 am: The 31-year-old Emily Diane Davis, a transient from Houston, was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning. Police originally suspected foul play in the crash, but it has since been concluded the event was an accident.
The accident happened on the 400 block of East 13th Street in Brownsville, near Hope Park.
Police believe that Davis was at a party, before stealing a car early Sunday morning. The evidence suggests that she was intoxicated when these events occurred.
The reason police believed the accident was a murder was that Davis was ejected from the car after the original impact, and her body was found about 30 feet away from the wrecked car.
After a series of interviews with witnesses and reconstruction of the accident, police determined that the event was an accident.
Davis died of blunt force trauma after being thrown from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene as soon as first responders arrived at the scene of the accident.
