July 24, 2018

Report says a man has been taken to a nearby hospital after he tumbled down an escalator in The Galleria.

July 24rd, 2018: This incident happened at The Houston Galleria shopping mall, located on Westheimer Road in Houston’s Uptown District. An eyewitness said that a 57-year-old man somersaulted down the stairs from the second floor to the first floor. It was reported that this happened after an altercation with another man near the stairway.

The 38-year-old man allegedly pushed the victim down the escalator during the heated argument. Consequently, the suspect attempted to flee the scene, but was taken into custody by a security officer in the mall.

Eyewitnesses quickly alerted security and helped the victim while he was at the bottom of the escalator. First responders arrived with an ambulance and transported him to a nearby hospital. EMS said the victim suffered a neck injury and sustained cuts and bruises.  It is unclear at this time if he had other injuries.

Police are currently investigating the incident.

Comments:

Altercations can easily lead to serious injuries. In addition to potential criminal charges, Texas law allows for civil actions for bodily injury. Depending on the circumstances, there could be other potential claims.
