News reports state that the truck was flipped on its side in the intersection of the feeder street from Eastex Freeway and Kelley Street.
September 5, 2018 – 4:00 pm: A tractor-trailer flipped on its side just northeast of downtown Houston on Wednesday afternoon, slowing down traffic significantly for several hours. No serious injuries are reported at this time.
The accident took place on the southbound lanes of the Eastex Freeway feeder at Kelley Street, where the truck’s driver lost control of the vehicle, which flipped on its side for as yet unknown reasons.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and the truck’s driver was unharmed. However, traffic on the freeway’s feeder was restricted for some time while investigators were on the scene and emergency workers struggled to set the vehicle upright.
The main lanes of the Eastex Freeway were not affected.
Investigators do not currently know what caused the accident. Driver error is always a possibility in these accidents, but other possibilities include uneven load distribution or poor road maintenance. In some cases, strong wind gusts have been known to flip tractor-trailers.
The accident is still being investigated at this time, so it’s too early to say what the cause was.
