According to news reports, the driver responsible for the accident is suspected of driving drunk.

January 20, 2019 – 1:30 am: A 24-year-old woman and a 5-year-old girl were both critically injured in a crash that took place early Sunday morning in Harris County. At last report, the girl remained in critical condition, but the woman has succumbed to her injuries and died.

The driver responsible for the crash, 35-year-old Isreal Suarez Lugo, was reportedly intoxicated at the time of the crash. He has been charged with intoxication assault.

The accident took place while Lugo was driving a red pickup down Harrisburg, running a red light at the intersection of Harrisburg and 75th. The pickup then hit a black Cadillac SUV with four people on board.

According to Michael Colchael, a witness who helped the victims of the crash before EMS arrived, a 15-year-old boy and a female driver of the SUV were uninjured in the accident.

Sean Teare of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office says that Lugo may not be the only one to face charges. He says, “We’ve identified a location where we believe the suspect in this case was drinking before this. Tomorrow or later today, we’re going to continue that investigation.”

If the District Attorney finds that Lugo was overserved, those responsible may face charges.
