Two Injured in Collision Involving Overturned SUV

August 25, 2018

A third vehicle – a pickup truck – was struck by the SUV while sitting at a red light, though the driver was reportedly not injured.

A two-vehicle collision that resulted in an overturned vehicle injured two people on the 8800 block of Westpark Drive at Fondren Road at 1 a.m. on August 25.

The authorities said that a car was traveling westbound on Westpark Dr. when it collided with an SUV, causing the larger vehicle to flip and skid into a nearby pickup truck that was stopped at a red light.

The drivers of the car and the SUV were both transported to the hospital and reported to be in stable condition.

In 2017, there were 925 fatal crashes involving SUVs in Texas.

SUVs are more prone to overturn than smaller vehicles due to a higher center of gravity. Rollovers are often single-vehicle crashes involving an overturned vehicle, though, as was the case in this collision, the force of impact with another vehicle can also cause these larger, top-heavy vehicles to overturn.

While rollovers are involved in only around 2% of all crashes in the U.S., they account for nearly 35% of all deaths from passenger vehicle crashes.

Over 200,000 people suffer injuries in Texas vehicle crashes every year.
