According to news reports, police released the victim’s identity on Thursday, although the crash happened on Monday.

October 15, 2018 – 12:00 pm: Billy Joy Bennett, an 86-year-old man from Brownwood, Texas, was killed in a three-vehicle collision that took place just outside of Santa Anna on Monday, in Coleman County. Three others were also injured in the accident.

The crash took place on U.S. Highway 67, a mile east of Santa Anna.

Bennett was driving a 1998 Lincoln Town Car when a 2015 Volvo semi truck jack-knifed and hit his vehicle. The semi also hit a 2017 Ford Fusion in the accident.

Bennett was killed in the crash. His passenger, Barbara Stanke Bennett, 84, was hospitalized with critical injuries.

Two occupants of the Ford Fusion were injured and transported to Coleman County Medical Center in stable condition. These were Michael Anthony Mugica, 56, and Joseph Stanley Sclafani, 55. Kadar Yasir Ali, 44, the driver of the Volvo, was not injured in the accident.

The crash remains under investigation at this time. It is not clear what caused Ali to lose control of the Volvo and jack-knife. Currently, it seems likely that rainy weather conditions contributed to the loss of control.
