May 21, 2019

According to police reports, a group of teens with paintball guns was gathered to fight near a man’s house, and he opened fire with a real rifle in self-defense.

May 21, 2019 – 6:00 pm: A 19-year-old man was shot and killed in what appears to have been a tragic misunderstanding on Tuesday night in northeast Houston.

The incident took place on Force Street, where about 15 teenagers with paintball guns had gathered to fight a 17-year-old who lived in the home.

The 17-year-old told his father about the situation, and the man took a rifle out and opened fire on the teens. One of them was shot, taken to the hospital in a private vehicle, and pronounced dead.

It does not appear that the father knew the teens were only armed with paintball guns.

Police have questioned the father, and they state that at this time it does not appear that he will face any criminal charges in connection with the incident. Three of the teens have been detained and are expected to be charged with assault or criminal mischief.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are still unclear, and the event is under investigation at this time.
