Police Officer Killed in Crash

News reports indicate that the officer was killed and one child was injured in the crash, which took place Thursday evening.

August 24, 2018 – 8:15 pm: Officer Stedmond Coleman of the Longview Police Department was fatally injured in a single-vehicle crash on Thursday evening.

The crash took place on FM 2906 in Gregg County, while Coleman was off duty. While driving near Garrett Road, Coleman lost control of the vehicle and went off the road. Coleman was ejected from the vehicle when it rolled over.

Coleman was critically injured in the accident, but he lived long enough to make it to the East Texas Medical Center in Tyler. After a few hours of treatment, Officer Coleman died in the hospital.

nine-month-old daughter was injured in the accident and taken to a local hospital. She was treated for minor wounds and released soon afterward.

Coleman served almost exactly five years on the force with the Longview PD. Sunday, August 26 would have been the fifth anniversary of his joining the force.

Walter Ward, Mayor of Easton, said, “I think our city is devastated right now because Stedmond was such a good friend and a good guy.”
