May 5, 2019 – 6:30 pm: A driver has been charged with murder after his passenger died in a crash that took place following a police chase on Sunday evening. Police report that they found “a lot of drugs and two firearms” in the vehicle after the crash.

The accident took place near Eldridge and I-10. Police had been pursuing the vehicle since the driver ran a red light at the intersection of Eldridge Parkway and Memorial Drive.

The driver of the black sedan fled the police, running another red light at Eldridge and I-10. That’s when the black sedan hit a white Lexus.

The driver of the Lexus was hospitalized, but she has since been discharged with minor injuries.

The driver and passenger of the sedan were both hospitalized, and the passenger died after arriving at the hospital.

Officials state that the driver has a criminal record, and the drugs and firearms in the vehicle may explain why he fled the police after running the red light.
The accident is still under investigation at this time.
