Pedestrian Killed While Crossing I-45

August 13, 2018

HPD reports that they don’t know why the man was trying to cross the freeway when he was struck by a pickup truck Monday night.

August 13, 2018 – 9:30 pm: A pedestrian on I-45 was struck and killed by a Chevrolet Silverado on Monday night.

The accident took place shortly after the Houston Police Department received a report that there was a man attempting to walk across the interstate near West Road. Police were already on the way to the area when they received further word that the man had been hit by a pickup truck.

The woman driving the pickup pulled over to the side of the road and waited for the police to show up on the scene. It is not expected that any charges will be filed.

After the accident occurred, southbound lanes of the freeway were closed for a little more than two hours, and the road was reopened a little bit after 11 pm.

HPD Lt. Larry Crowson told reporters on the scene that the police department did not currently know why the man was trying to cross the freeway on foot. He said the accident is a reminder that the freeway is one of the most dangerous places in the city for pedestrians.
