News reports state that westbound traffic was diverted to Highway 365 after the wreck.

August 28, 2018 – 4:15 am: A man was killed in a crash with an 18-wheeler on I-10 early Tuesday morning. A Texas DPS press release states that the man’s identity will not be released until his next of kin has been notified.

The crash took place when a 2015 Nissan passenger vehicle rear-ended a 2003 International tractor-trailer. The driver of the tractor-trailer, Luis Morejon (51) of Spring, Texas, was not injured in the accident.

The accident took place in the westbound lane of I-10, near mile marker 838, about 15 miles west of Beaumont.

The driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Ray Chesson. The driver is identified as a 55-year-old male from Pearland, Texas.

Traffic on westbound I-10 was closed at the site of the accident, and motorists in the vicinity of the crash were being diverted onto Highway 365. DPS encouraged drivers headed west from Beaumont to take U.S. Highway 90 as an alternative route.

The crash is still under investigation, and there is no word at the moment regarding why the Nissan driver rear-ended the tractor-trailer.
