Newlyweds Killed in Helicopter Crash on Wedding Day

According to news reports, the couple were killed in a crash that occurred about an hour and a half after their wedding ended.

November 3, 2018 – 11:00 pm: A pair of newlyweds and their pilot died in a helicopter crash about an hour and a half after their wedding on Saturday night.

The crash took place about 15 miles northwest of Uvalde, Texas, where the remains of the Bell 206B helicopter were found around 7:00 am Sunday. For unknown reasons, the helicopter had crashed into the side of a hill.

Will Byler and Bailee Ackerman were married on Saturday night, and they were travelling to San Antonio by helicopter. They were both killed in the crash, which also killed the pilot of the helicopter, Gerald Green Lawrence.

Byler and Ackerman were both seniors majoring in Agriculture at Sam Houston State University, and Lawrence was a retired U.S. Army Captain who fought in Vietnam.

The helicopter was expected to land in San Antonio at around midnight. Personnel in San Antonio first suspected something was wrong when they heard a mayday signal shortly before losing radar contact with the helicopter.

The cause of the crash is unknown at this time.
