Midtown Crash Involving Boat Leads to Traffic Congestion and Potential Injury

August 26, 2018

At least one person was taken to the hospital after the crash.

A traffic incident involving a vehicle pulling a boat occurred on 2300 SH-288 inbound at the IH-45 inbound ramp at around 7:30 p.m. Sunday night, August 26, 2018.

The causes and parties involved remain unknown, and the Houston Police Department said they are investigating the incident.

Crashes involving attached units are not uncommon in Texas. In 2017, there were 91 crashes involving a trailer hitch and 32 crashes attributed to faulty or missing trailer brakes. There were at least two deaths stemming from trailer-related crashes.

Attaching a unit like a boat creates a number of hazards for motorists. The proficiency, thoroughness, and experience of the person attaching the unit and the person driving the vehicle determine how securely the unit is attached and how safely the unit is transported. These qualities are especially important when there is inclement weather.

On average, a person dies on Texas roads every two hours and 21 minutes in Texas. In 2017, there were 3,721 motor vehicle traffic fatalities in the state. Over 200,000 people suffer injuries in Texas vehicle crashes every year.
