Man Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash in Smith County

According to news reports, the crash is likely to have been caused by speeding, although the accident is still under investigation.

 

December 5, 2018 – 4:40 am: Kevin Alexander Burleson, 37, of Troup, Texas, was killed in a single-vehicle crash that took place early Wednesday morning.

The crash took place while Burleson was driving a 2015 Buick Regal northbound on County Road 2138, about four miles northwest of Troup.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Burleson was driving at an unsafe speed, causing his vehicle to skid on a left curve in the roadway. The vehicle slid off of the roadway, hit a tree, and rolled over.

When first responders arrived on the scene, Burleson was pronounced dead.

The crash took place early on Wednesday morning, but Burleson’s identity was not announced until Thursday morning, after police had notified his next of kin.

The preliminary investigation does not include any information about the reasons Burleson may have been driving too fast for conditions. News reports do not indicate whether or not alcohol was a factor in the accident.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is still investigating the accident at this time.
